The earliest forms of social media could actually be viewed as chat rooms. In 1973 the first official chat room called Talkomatic was launched. About a year later March 15 1983 the first primitive forum was created. They offered a way to discuss subjects, categories and interests online. Initially a text based communication platform called Delphi Forums, which is still around today allowed email, chat functionality as well as news bulletin boards.
