Research from Gartner, conducted before the pandemic in 2020, showed that marketing technology continued to be one of the largest portions of a company’s total marketing budget (26% on average). Despite the economic disruption caused by COVID-19, marketing leaders were initially defiant, believing their martech budgets would emerge unscathed from the crisis; by late 2020, 66% of marketing leaders expected moderate to severe cuts.
